Blogger in the Spotlight: Aline Chirinian

Name: Aline Chirinian
Nickname: Nouchaline, Alien, Ally, Al, Alino, Nouch (everybody just comes up with their own, but these are the basics)
Current Location: Beirut, Lebanon
Hometown: Beirut, Lebanon
Age: 19
Profession: University Student, Part-time fashion blogger
Language: English, Arabic, French, Armenian
Your style (in couple of words):
I tend to be a moody dresser; it can go from rocker to super girly in a day. My constant is that I love color :)

How long have you been blogging?
A year and seven months  :D

What was the reason that you've started blogging?
Before I started blogging, I had been reading blogs for about 2 years then one day my favorite blog was going through a system error and I was going through withdrawal... so I thought, "hey, I should make one". So I made Alien's Labyrinth then later changed it to Nouchaline.

What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
Figuring out my blogging style and "voice". At the beginning, I didn't do personal style because I wasn't comfortable with it so I would only post about shoes/bags/dresses I liked. But then I got feedback and encouragement and I decided to give it a try. I still haven't figured out my exact style but I'm getting there :)

What do you like about blogging?
It's an expression platform. I get to share my thoughts, inspiration, style, love and hates with others. You get to interact with people from all over the world that you normally wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet.
Blogging has given me several opportunities to attend events and meet interesting people. A couple of months ago I even wrote for FashionBeirut.com

What would you like to change about your blog?
Like I said, one of my favorite things is interaction with my readers... so if I could change something about my blog it would be more interaction with my readers.  All bloggers love comments :P

Any future plans for your blog?
Keep doing what I'm doing, and hopefully figure out an exact blogging style and comfortable with which will also help me achieve my blogging "goal" (more interaction).

Who inspires you (blog)?
Bloggers like Amber from Shoeperwoman (reason I started my blog), Charles from Charles B. Goode, Krizia from Shark Attack. Also different things that happen in my life or that I see somewhere...

Fashion Icon:  I don't really have a fashion icon but I do like Lauren Conrad's and Olivia Palermo 's style, also I love how Dita Von Teese is always put together! (Have you seen photos of her at the GYM? yeah..: P)
Favorite clothing item:  Shoes are my favorite, I have about 50 pairs. But my favorite ones are my green peep toes. I bought them as a present to myself for graduating highschool back in 2008.
Favorite brand: Emilio Pucci, Balenciaga, Balmain, Channel, Christian Louboutin and Alexander McQueen.
Favorite Celebrity: Katy Perry because she's just so much fun!
What would be your dream job: Somewhere in between the business and fashion world. Fashion marketing/PR.
Where do you dream to live: New York City!
Hobbies: Shopping, swimming, reading, driving and sketching.

Any beauty/fashion tip?
When wearing heels, always have a back up pair of flats in your bag!

Any advice for someone who aspire to be a blogger like you?
That would be so sweet! I'll go with have fun with blogging.

Tell us something particular of you.
I love musicals and think gingers are hot :)

Travel in Style

The big day is coming and I really want to embark this new journey of my life with the best face possible. Now, with all the crying I don't really think my face will be in the best position, so maybe I should work on the outfit for that day. If I'm lucky I will look fashionably enough that people won't even notice the mascara running through my face. Goodbye's are so bittersweet, thank God I will have my friend The Makeup Bag next to me.

The flight from Curacao to Amsterdam is approximately 9 hours long. It's a torture, so that means I need something really comfortable.

Like any other occasion traveling has some basic elements concerning your outfit.

  • Cardigan/Jacket
  • Simple Blouse/Top/Shirt
  • Scarf
  • Boots/Sneakers/Flats/
  • Big Hangbag/Tote/Shoulderbag
  • Jeans/Jeggings
  • Sunglasses (depends)
As you can see if you mix and match these element you will get a fashionable airport outfit.

I have a hard time deciding what I want to wear, so I've decided to create some looks and see which one is the best. There are some pieces here that are hard to find on the island - like a freaking leather jacket - so I basically used what I already have in my closet and what I can buy.

Which one do you think is the best? Let me know in you comment.

Did You See Something Different?

Yes! First change is done....

It took a lot more effort than what I thought but I'm happy with the outcome. The name of my blog is changed and the new name Shades of Sexy Little Things. I love the new name, it's sweet, classy but with a spicy touch.

Changing the name required me to change lots of think. One of them was my Facebook Page. I opened a new page and the old one will be deleted soon. Be sure to follow me on it.

Also I had to change all of my profiles that was linked to my blog. I think I changed all of them, so if you're linking me in some kind of way please be a dear and change the link to the new one.

Sadly I lost all of the comments on my blog #mweh, and I don't know how to import then into my blog back. I use disqus and all of the comments are still on the dashboard, does any of you guys know how to put them back in my new blog? Also let me know if you have any kind of trouble commenting on my blog.

Lets Chitty Chat

Oke, let me start by saying that I'm TRULY sorry for my lack of posting. I have so much on my mind these days that I don't really have time to think about blogging. I have a lot of topics that I want to share though. Just have to write them now.

On July 9 my blog will turn 6 months old. I still can't believe how far I went in so little time. Blogging is now part of my life and most importantly my future. This wasn't possible without the support of all my readers. As you all know we hit 100+ followers and that with the 6 month anniversary is reasons enough to celebrate. At the end of next week I promise to post my giveaway which will be open worldwide.

[100-followers.jpg]

My blog helped me a lot in  deciding in what I want in my life. I'm taking everything one step at the time without missing any opportunity. One thing I have now on my mind is looking for ways to expand my blog. After a lot of brainstorming I decided that I needed some changes. One of the first changes is my blog name. As you all know my blog started as a beauty blog and now I've incorporated the fashion aspect in it, so I think the name is not very appropriate. The blog name will change, but NOT the CONTENT! I will have to delete my Facebook page, and make a new one. I will post a link as soon as I do this and also send a message to all of my followers on FB.

There are more changes coming up, but I will keep you all updated of course. I'm really excited for all the changes coming up and I have a very good feeling about it. WE'RE GOING BIG!!!

Brushology: The face

Awhile ago I wrote about the launch of The Beauty Department run by our favorite fashionista Lauren Conrad. This website is amazing and I definitely recommend you to check it out. I found a section on their website where they give detailed information about brushes. The information is divided in several posts which they publish every week. Their first post was about brushes for the face, thus for the use of foundations, powder, and concealers.  As soon as I saw it I thought of sharing it with you all.  Keep pending because I keep posting more of these. Next one Blush and Bronzing

With all types of foundations, remember to start at the center of your face (where you typically need the most coverage) and work the product outwards to the perimeter.  Also, the best companion tool for brushes is your fingers so don’t forget to blend with them as you use your brushes.  And please don’t forget your neck!
Foundation (Liquid): You’ll want a synthetic, densely-packed flat but wide brush to effortlessly cover more space when you’re in a hurry in the mornings.  Look for ones with nylon or Taklon bristles for the smoothest application.

Foundation (Cream): If you use a cream foundation, you’ll want a 100% natural bristle brush so it deposits less product as you swirl it all over, giving you a flawless airbrushed effect.  Natural bristles are critical for building coverage without streaking.

Foundation (Mineral Powder): This can be a synthetic or natural bristle powder brush, but look for one with a plump shape designed for the swirling motion we do when applying minerals.

Concealer (Undereye): I love a flat synthetic concealer brush for covering dark circles because you can really “lay down” the product by using the side of the brush.  The other component to look for is a tapered edge because this helps you avoid clumping during application.  The synthetic bristles will pick up less product so your coverage will last longer (the thicker you apply it, the more likely it will crease and cake).

Concealer (Blemishes): Look for a pointed and tapered concealer brush made ofsynthetic bristles so you can apply it precisely on top of any kind of blemish (pimple, scar, broken capillary, etc.) without touching the surrounding skin. Practice mini-swirling motions gently on top of the blemish then lightly blend the perimeters with your ring finger.

Powder (All-over): Look for a big, fluffy natural bristle powder brush for situations when you’re going to be on camera (college TV channel, YouTube, your friend’s music video) or photographed under brutal lights (yearbook photos, weddings, sorority formals).

Powder (T-Zone): Use an eyeshadow blending brush made with natural hair bristles as a powder brush just for the areas that tend to shine: between your brows, around and on the tip of your nose, your upper lip and your chin.  This allows the rest of your face to glow and breathe.

Who wore it better: Kate Middleton or Leighton Meester

Kate Middleton is in the spotlight again. After taking a break of all news for her honeymoon, Kate is fashionably back. The Duchess of Cambridge attended the ARK 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner and she looked beautiful. The brunette beauty wore a romantic pale rose gown from Jenny Packham's Spring 2011 collection. The dress has soft tulle sleeves and is encrusted with tonal sequins and Swarovski crystals. Kate paired her dress with a matching blush tone clutch and peep toe sandals.

A very similar version of this dress was wore by Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) in Gossip Girl episode entitled, The princess and the Frog. Blair dress was originally tea-length.

Now the question is: Who wore it better? I personally think Blair did better. It suited her skin color and the hair is just breathtaking. What do you think?

P.S.: Is it just me or do Kate Middleton get skinnier day by day. Seriously girl start eating some McDonald's  you're in desperate need of it.

Blogger in the Spotlight: Priyanka Kochar

Name: Priyanka Kochar
Nickname: whatever u call me !!
Twitter, Mail, FB, Communities: priyankakochar
Current Location: India
Hometown:  Ahmadabad (Gujarat)
Age: 24 yrs
Profession: fashion designer
Language: English, Hindi
Your style (in couple of words):
My personal style is minimalistic yet very graphic. I don’t try to incorporate too many things but one statement piece is enough for me. I am fond of traditional textiles since I come from a country rich in textiles and embroidery which I try to mix and match with my day to day outfits.

How long have you been blogging?
I’m into my third month

What was the reason that you've started blogging?
Ever since childhood I have been inclined to writing, going to a fashion school further for graduation helped me get a hands on experience about fashion and trends.
So my passion for writing and fashion was spotted by a bunch of friends who gave me this idea of starting a blog. Within three days I registered my blog and now there is no looking back!!

What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
Starting a blog was not difficult because I knew exactly what kind of a blog I was up to. But the biggest challenge was after that as I had to get others know that such a thing existed.
Posting on social networking sites does help gut soon I realized that if I don’t infuse life into my blog it will die.  So regularly posting interesting topics and catching up with events happening at that very moment helped.

What do you like about blogging?
The best part about blogging is that I get to meet new people and renew contacts with my old friends. The whole idea of writing what I think is exciting to me. Blogging to me is like an open diary about my likes and dislikes. The whole process of putting up a post based on a simple idea is really inspiring. When I see my page views and followers going up day by day it gives me a kick. Views, likes, comments all are added sugar for me to keep blogging.

What would you like to change about your blog?
I would like to change the layout of my blog as I haven’t worked on it even a bit.
It’s too basic so I would make it more interesting visually. I am working on it and soon would accomplish that too.

Any future plans for your blog?
As the blog gets bigger I want to make it a one stop destination for people related to fashion and style for reference.  And further down the lane I would also use it as platform to promote my work.

Fashion Icon: Isabella Blow for her exclusive and sartorial style. I’m a big fan of her wild headgears.
Favorite clothing item: My favorite clothing item is a white falling lapel jacket by Rustam Chauhan. Its starkingly white in crepe and is a perfect piece to take you from day to night. So when in doubt I prefer wearing this one. (See attached picture)
Favorite brand: Not any particular as such. But since I own a lot of FCUK I am fond of it.
Favorite Celebrity: Lady Gaga
What would be your dream job: Dream job would be to get into a magazine like Vogue, Elle etc write and style for them. But sometimes down the line I plan to start a label of my own in partnership with a friend who would deal in styling, garmenting, working with magazines, design analysis etc.
Where do you dream to live: There is no place as comfortable as my own house. So my dream is to live there all my life.
Hobbies: I do a lot of reading and writing. Photography is another passion but I still have to get a hang of it.

Any beauty/fashion tip?
Go out play with colors and textures , experiment, try breaking rules and have some fun.
Beauty tip : always have a lip stain with you it works well on the lips , eyes, cheeks etc.
Fashion tip : keep in an interesting stole /scarf in prints, checks etc handy all the time so that you can prep up any boring outfit. Drape it like a necktie or a cowl or tie it around your waist the way you want it.

Any advice for someone who aspire to be a blogger like you?
If you have It in you then do not hesitate a bit. Go click pictures, meet up with people, go networking and always speak your mind. Develop a USP for your blog and it will take you to places.

Tell us something particular of you.
I am a highly organized person so anything that goes haywire irritates me to the core.

Stila New Liquid Eyeliner CURACAO ♥

I don't know if you remember but I once wrote about a new fragrance of Marc Jacobs called Curacao. In this same post I explained why this news made me so happy. The reason was of course because I was raised in that little island called Curacao and it makes me so proud when we're being put in the spotlight.

Now we have another product named after our Curacao. You heard that right!

Stila Cosmetics introduced its new line of liquid eyeliner. Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner is available in eight shades: Bora Bora (sparkling turquoise), Rock Candy (sparkling warm brown), Electric (sparkling bright green),Sequins (sparkling black), Royal (sparkling electric purple), Flash (sparkling olive khaki), Starry(sparkling gunmetal gray), and Curacao (sparkling violet blue).

Age: 19
Profession: I’m at uni but I work casually in childcare and as a waitress

I started late last year but then completely lost momentum. Then a few months ago inspiration hit! I’ve been avidly blogging since.

What was the reason that you've started blogging?
I realized that fashion is pretty much always on my mind. So I thought rather than having my head explode from a fashion aneurism I had better just write all my thoughts down... That and blogging provides a Great distraction from super boring uni shiz.

What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
Just finding my own blogging style. There are so many fashion blogs out there so I think it’s important to figure out your own little niche, which is something I’m constantly trying to establish and improve.

What do you like about blogging?
The fact that you can just put what you have to say out there. And that people may be even vaguely interested in what I have to say. Every comment or new follower just makes my day J

What would you like to change about your blog?
More followers! I never request for people to follow me so I like to think those that do have found something special and interesting about my blog. I also want to do more outfit posts.

Who inspires you (blog)?
I recently got into Lee Oliviera’s blog which is amazing. Breakfast with Audrey is also really fun.

Favorite clothing item: My new black cowboy boots for winter!
Favorite brand: Balmain is amazing!
Favorite Celebrity: Georgia-May Jagger, Brigitte Bardot, Kate Moss....and Usher haha

What would be your dream job?
I want to be a journalist, like for the BBC, or a fashion journo, or an international buyer for fashion houses or work for the UN (so a real mixed bag haha)

Where do you dream to live?
I always wanted to have an apartment overlooking Darling Harbour in Sydney.

Any beauty/fashion tip?
Moroccan Oil is a Godsend!

Any advice for someone who aspire to be a blogger like you?
Gosh, I would just be super flattered they wanted to be a blogger like me!
